Chemical treatments

Chemical treatment is when a termitcide is injected into the soil around the home or structure, therefore creating a chemical barrier against termites.  At Command Pest Control, Inc. we are currently using a termiticide called Termidor.  We feel this product is the best on the market today.

The following is information on Termidor reprinted in part from a Termidor brochure.

Termidor is a new type of termite control that for over 6 years has faced the stiffest tests that US and foreign researchers could throw at it.

Without exception, Termidor passed wit flying colors.  In fact, no other termiticide in history has consistently returned ‘100% effective’ results whenever and wherever it was used.

What makes Termidor Different?  The active ingredient in Termidor is fipronil, and it works quite differently from other active ingredients.  It also manages termite colonies in 3 months or less (that’s significantly faster than the best bait system).  Here’s why.

Termites don’t know its there.  Many termiticides are repellents, applied as a barrier.  This means they keep termites away instead of killing them.  But if there’s a gap I the treatment, the repellent effect fails and termites get through.

Termidor is non-repellent.  Termites can’t smell it, see it or feel it.  Since they don’t know it’s there, they forage freely in treated area.  The “100% effective” results begin here.

Is it safe?  Termidor is effective at very low application rates:  typically, the active ingredient fipronil will be just 0.06%  Since 1995, fipronil has been used for flea and tick control on millions of cats and dogs, globally.  And since Termidor bonds to the soil, there’s no leaching through rainfall or irrigation.

Does it smell?  No. Termidor has virtually no odor (which means neither you nor your family will notice anything).  Since it’s applied with water, there’s also no solvent smell.

Who makes Termidor?  Aventis Environmental Science, one of the world’s largest environmental science company.  Aventis has developed a complete generation of effective, responsible pest control products for many different industries and applications.

Borate Treatment

Treating Wood with Borates

Command Pest Control, Inc. uses three different methods to apply Borate. Powder form, liquid form, or we also apply it as a foam (for accessing hard to reach areas).

The two products we use for borate treatments are Tim-bor and BORA-CARE.  The main ingredients are similar, although they do have some differences.  Borate are unique chemicals, with many advantages.  They are odorless, relatively safe to humans, don’t break down, and control all types of pests.  Although Borate can be used for general pest control, we use them for termite, beetle and fungus control.  For termite control, Borates act as a poison to the wood.  Wood is eaten, shared, and spread to other members – causing toxins to build in the termite’s body.  Treated wood is also less desirable to eat for future infestations.  For beetles, it causes a reduces amount of eggs to hatch.  Larvac that do hatch out are poisoned by the wood, similarly to termites.  Borate sprays are great for exposed wood framing like decks, attics and sub areas.  Spraying with Borate is also a great preventative measure to do during the construction of a house.

Bait Systems

This type of treatment is performed by placing monitoring stations around the perimeter of you home, these stations consist of wee feeding blocks inserted into a plastic housing tube.  These stations are then monitored at certain timely intervals for termite activity, when activity is found with in these stations an insecticide bait is then inserted into the station replacing the wood.  Also with this method a log is kept to record any and al termite activity around property with times and areas noted. This is probably one of the least invasive types of treatments that can be done to your home.
